Donald Dunn Testimonial

“I started getting involved with gangs and drugs around the age of 10. I spent several years in the TYC juvenile system and was moved to TDC from TYC at age 17. My adult life has consisted of 4 trips to prison for a total of approximately 17 years. Each time I was released, I returned to old habits and old friends thinking that I would have better luck, each time experiencing the same failures. While in prison the last time, I decided to give my life over to Christ.
During that time, I lost my sight due to a medical condition. I became angry with God. Now that I’m living right, it seemed unfair that this would happen. I prayed for early release and my prayers were answered very quickly. Upon release, I began looking for help. I was directed to Operation Oasis by Dallas Housing Authority. The Operation Oasis program has helped me grow my relationship with Christ, improve and repair my relationship with my family through communication skills training, and get an apartment with Dallas Housing Authority. I’m enrolled at Eastfield College and working toward a counseling degree. I also volunteer to work with teens exiting gangs at Vision Regeneration, a partner of Operation Oasis.
For over 2 1/2 years now, I’ve been a part of the Oasis program and I’ve seen the staff deal with lots of stressful situations without it showing and I’ve learned that it’s important to remain positive regardless of the circumstances. I thank God for them.”
